Dental laminates are thin custom-made wafer-like shells designed to cover the exterior surface of the teeth to improve its overall appearance. When placed at the front of the teeth, these laminates change the colour, size, shape and the length of the teeth.

Dental laminates are constructed out of porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain laminates are best known for mimicking the right reflecting property of natural teeth. Resin laminates, being thinner, require removal of a thin tooth surface before placement. So, they both have their own set of benefits.

Difference between a laminate and a crown:

Some fail to differentiate between a laminate and a crown. Though the 2 serve a common purpose, they are quite different from each other. A laminate covers the front surface of the tooth, while the crown is meant to cover the entire tooth.
